Is it actually worth taking a taxi instead of the train?

For a solo traveller with light luggage, the train is often genuinely cheaper and just as fast on most of our routes. From two or more people travelling together, especially with luggage, a fixed-price taxi becomes cost-comparable or better once you add up individual train tickets plus onward transport at the other end. It's worth being honest about this rather than claiming a taxi always wins.

Fares & Booking

Are your fares fixed, or could I be overcharged?

Airport fares are fixed and published on our Fares & Booking page. Local journeys are quoted individually and confirmed before you travel. Unlike a metered hackney carriage, we're not tied to the council's tariff, so the price you're quoted is the price you pay.

Should I book in advance?

Yes, especially for longer journeys, very early departures, or weekend nights. A real Tunbridge Wells resident once worked out the cost of a late-night 20-mile journey using the council's own published hackney fare table and got roughly £91 — concluding it was far better value and more certain to book ahead than hail on the night.

Reliability & Licensing

How reliable are you for early morning or late departures?

This is genuinely the most common concern raised about airport taxis in general — being on time for an early flight or a late arrival. We track your flight and adjust your pickup time automatically, and every airport and late-night page on this site is built around exactly that reassurance, not just as a general claim.

Is my taxi properly licensed?

Yes. Every vehicle and driver is licensed through Tunbridge Wells Borough Council, which requires an enhanced DBS check for drivers and the relevant insurance cover for vehicles. Licensing has been a live local topic — the council was warning residents about unlicensed vehicles as far back as 2019, and more recently granted Uber its own licence in July 2025 under the same rules every operator, including us, has to meet.

Getting to the Airport

Does the driver drop off right at the terminal, or somewhere else?

At some UK airports, particularly budget-carrier terminals, minicabs have historically been directed to a designated drop-off point rather than the terminal door itself, which can catch passengers out if they haven't allowed time for it. Mention your airport when booking and we'll confirm exactly where your driver will drop you.

Accessibility & Special Requests

Can I request an accessible or wheelchair-friendly vehicle?

Ask when you book and we'll confirm availability. It's worth flagging in advance rather than assuming — ordinary rank taxis at several UK airports, including Gatwick, aren't wheelchair accessible, so pre-booking is the more reliable route if this applies to you.

Can I request a female driver?

Mention it when you book and we'll do our best to accommodate the request, though it depends on driver availability at the time. It's a reasonable thing to ask for and we'd rather you raise it upfront than not ask at all.
